150x Home WOD
We lost another great man Friday. John Robert Lewis was a Civil Rights Leader and member of the House of Representatives. Lewis started marching and participating in peaceful protests as a college student in Nashville. He fought for our rights before most of us were even born.Lewis battled Jim Crow segregation laws using nonviolent tactics even though he was physically abused and beaten by police on multiple occasions including "Bloody Sunday" in Selma in 1965.Lewis was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for Georgia's 5th congressional district and started serving in 1987. He was in his 17th term when he died Friday.John Lewis made waves for us.
But there is clearly still LOTS of work to be done for social justice and equality. We will be paying tribute to him tomorrow at @150bayfit with this workout.Lewis was born February 21, 1940. He died of cancer Friday July 17, 2020.
